2017 blue2blue Drone Film Festival Winners

The blue2blue Drone Film Festival announced the winners of its 2017 edition. Watch the 7 amazing winners here!

Seven winning films plus the Best Still Photograph rose to the top of the shortlisted candidates during the blue2blue Finalists Screening and Awards Night.

On the evening of March 31, 2017, the second edition of the blue2blue Drone and Action Camera Film Festival took place at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre, NSW, Australia, an historic outdoor cinema run by the same family since 1948,

Festival Judges Andy Willmott (Drone Magazine technical editor), Claudia Pickering (award-winning producer, director, writer and actor), Adam Spencer (Tropfest host) and Brett Beswick (Central Coast Surf Lifesaving director) picked the winning films in 6 categories: Best Fiction, Best Documentary, Best Grommits (for under 16yr filmmakers), Best Music Video, Best Sports, Best Cinematographer.

They also picked the Best Still Photograph (awarded to Christian Liechti) while the 300 guests in the audience voted for the People’s Choice film.

The second edition of this Australian festival saw a positive improvement both in the number of international entries and in the quality of the films submitted, the festival’s creator and director Martin AshleyJones told Skytango.

Martin, who is also an actor and filmmaker, discovered drones and their potential for filmmaking in 2015 when working on an overseas production. A year later, the blue2blue Festival was born – the first drone film festival in Australia to encourage, promote, make, show and celebrate the use of drones in filmmaking, in particular in adventure and action films.

The winning drone cinematographers brought home prizes from the sponsors: UAVAIR, Blackmagic Design, Phaser FPV, Skytango and local companies like Six String Brewery, Tranquil Vale Wines, Central Coast Council. All winners received a Pro Skytango Annual Membership worth $289.00.

10% of all proceeds goes to Project BASE, a charity launched by Martin’s son Nate, aimed at providing clean water to hundreds of thousands of people in different communities around the world.

As proud sponsors of the blue2blue Drone Film Festival, we are looking forward to its growth on the international scene.
