China Daily Partners with EHang on Drone Journalism

China Daily partners with EHang to provide its reporters with training on drone journalism.


China Daily has teamed up with drone manufacturer EHang to provide its reporters with specific training on drone usage.

The agreement has been signed by China Daily Digital Media, which is responsible for the website China Daily (chinadaily.com.cn), China’s first national English-language website, with over 52 million page views per day and over 28 million followers on social media.

EHang, which received $42 million in Series B funding in 2015, is one of the emerging players in the consumer and prosumer market, even if its market share is still far away from other competitors. Apart from making the headlines for their world’s first autonomous, human-size drone EHang 184 at CES 2016, they also manufacture the smartphone-controlled Ghost drone, requiring only an Android or iOS device to fly.

The collaboration agreement between China Daily and EHang Inc., was signed on Dec 7, 2016, and the training will address the industry’s development and the use of UAV in news reports and post-production.

“By co-operating with our premier partner in drone news coverage, we will seize the industrial trend driven by new technologies and improve our responsiveness, diversity and additional value during breaking news reports and cross-border communications around the globe”,

China Daily‘s deputy editor Li Xin said in the press release published on China Daily.

EHang senior director Li Zhiyuan said the partnership would help enrich and diversify news coverage by providing aerial photography equipment with handy, safe and multiple fly patterns to reporters. He also said:

“Drones can also be used to reach the real scenes of stories.”

Earlier this year, People’s Daily website and Xinhua News Agencies announced plans to jointly work with third-party hardware companies to establish strategies for UAV news reports.
