Peugeot Drone Film Festival launched by DJI and Peugeot in 2016

The leading drone manufacturer DJI and the French car manufacturer Peugeot have launched the Peugeot Drone Film Festival, a new international drone film festival with a very innovative prize.

The German branch of DJI Innovations and the popular car manufacturer Peugeot have joined their efforts to launch the Peugeot Drone Film Festival which will run for the first time in November 2016.

The submissions opened March 15, 2016 and can be made through a form on the official Peugeot Drone Film Festival website up to September 16, 2016.

Drone flyers and filmmakers can submit their productions – provided at least 50% of the footage was shot with a drone – to the following four categories:

  • “Landscape” for landscape and architectural films
  • “Sports” for action-packed shots
  • Story Telling” for films developing narrative elements
  • Impress yourself” for dronies and self-impressions

If your film does not fit into one of the above categories, you can still submit it to the Experimental category.

The festival takes place in Germany and the three best submissions in each category will be invited to Italy for a grand final and a 3-day intense DJI workshop at the Tuscany Resort Castelfalfi.

The 12 finalists plus the winner of the Experimental category will be picked by the Festival director Marie Bäumer, a popular German actress and director, and the jury (which includes the famous DOP Gernott Roll) on October 15, 2016.

Castelfalfi is a beautiful abandoned Tuscan 1,000-year-old estate, bought in 2006 by the TUI Group, then restored and converted into a tourist resort, and opened to the public in 2015.

It consists of 1,100 hectares with wineries, valleys, forests and an entire Italian village and castle:

The finalists will receive a three-day DJI drone workshop with some of the best drone pilots in the world, accompanied by a workshop run by Marie Bäumer, and the entire area will be made available for drone filming.

The overall winner of the Festival will also get a very appealing prize: two luxury Peugeot Traveller MPVs , a complete DJI drone set and 5,000 EURO cash for travel expenses will be made available to the winner for six weeks, to allow him or her to shoot the perfect drone movie in Europe.

The partnership between DJI, Peugeot and Castelfalfi is really interesting and brings innovation to the  Drone Film Festival arena. I hope to see similar initiatives in the future!
